    The Rede...

Bide the Wiccan laws ye must,

in perfect love and perfect trust.

Live ye and let live, fairly take and fairly give.

Form the circle thrice about, to keep all evil spirits out.

To bind the spell every time, let the spell be spake in rhyme.

Soft of eye, light of touch, speak ye little, listen much.

Deosil go by the waxing moon, singing out ye Witches’ Rune.

Widdershins go by the waning moon, chanting out ye Baneful Rune.

When the Lady’s moon is new, kiss your hand to her times two.

When the moon rides at her peak, then ye heart’s desire seek.

Heed the North wind’s mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.

When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss thee on the mouth.

When the wind blows from the West, departed souls may have no rest.

When the wind blows from the East, except the new and set the feast.

Nine woods in the cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.

Elder be the Lady’s tree, burn it not or cursed you’ll be.

When the wheel begins to turn, soon the Beltaine fire’ll burn.

When the wheel hath turned to Yule, light the log the Horned One rules.

Heed ye flower, bush and tree, by the Lady blessed be.

Where the rippling waters flow, cast a stone and truth you’ll know.

When ye have and hold a need, harken not to others greed.

With a fool no season spend, nor be counted as his friend.

Merry meet and merry part, bright the cheeks and warm the heart.

Mind the threefold law ye should, three times bad and three times good.

When misfortune is anow, wear the blue star on thy brow.

True in love you must ever be, lest thy love be false to thee.

These eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill,

"An It Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

    The history...

    Samhain  (October 31st)

Samhain, (pronounced SOW-in, SAH-vin, or SAM-hayne) means "End of Summer", and is the third and final Harvest. The dark winter half of the year commences on this Sabbat.

It is generally celebrated on October 31st, but some traditions prefer November 1st. It is one of the two "spirit-nights" each year, the other being Beltane. It is a magical interval when the mundane laws of time and space are temporarily suspended, and the Thin Veil between the worlds is lifted. Communicating with ancestors and departed loved ones is easy at this time, for they journey through this world on their way to the Summerlands. It is a time to study the Dark Mysteries and honor the Dark Mother and the Dark Father, symbolized by the Crone and her aged Consort.

Originally the "Feast of the Dead" was celebrated in Celtic countries by leaving food offerings on altars and doorsteps for the "wandering dead". Today a lot of practitioners still carry out that tradition. Single candles were lit and left in a window to help guide the spirits of ancestors and loved ones home. Extra chairs were set to the table and around the hearth for the unseen guest. Apples were buried along roadsides and paths for spirits who were lost or had no descendants to provide for them. Turnips were hollowed out and carved to look like protective spirits, for this was a night of magic and chaos. The Wee Folke became very active, pulling pranks on unsuspecting humans. Traveling after dark was was not advised. People dressed in white (like ghosts), wore disguises made of straw, or dressed as the opposite gender in order to fool the Nature spirits.

This was the time that the cattle and other livestock were slaughtered for eating in the ensuing winter months. Any crops still in the field on Samhain were considered taboo, and left as offerings to the Nature spirits. Bonfires were built, (originally called bone-fires, for after feasting, the bones were thrown in the fire as offerings for healthy and plentiful livestock in the New Year) and stones were marked with peoples names. Then they were thrown into the fire, to be retrieved in the morning. The condition of the retrieved stone foretold of that person's fortune in the coming year. Hearth fires were also lit from the village bonfire to ensure unity, and the ashes were spread over the harvested fields to protect and bless the land.

Various other names for this Greater Sabbat are Third Harvest, Samana, Day of the Dead, Old Hallowmas (Scottish/Celtic), Vigil of Saman, Shadowfest (Strega), and Samhuinn. Also known as All Hallow's Eve, (that day actually falls on November 7th), and Martinmas (that is celebrated November 11th), Samhain is now generally considered the Witch's New Year.

    Symbolism of Samhain:
Third Harvest, the Dark Mysteries, Rebirth through Death.

    Symbols of Samhain:
Gourds, Apples, Black Cats, Jack-O-Lanterns, Besoms.

    Herbs of Samhain:
Mugwort, Allspice, Broom, Catnip, Deadly Nightshade, Mandrake, Oak leaves, Sage and Straw.

    Foods of Samhain:
Turnips, Apples, Gourds, Nuts, Mulled Wines, Beef, Pork, Poultry.

    Incense of Samhain:
    Heliotrope, Mint, Nutmeg.

    Colors of Samhain:
    Black, Orange, White, Silver, Gold.

    Stones of Samhain:
All Black Stones, preferably jet or obsidian.

To all our listeners who may be concerned:

Yes, Ike is coming straight for us.

But don't freak out. We'll be fine. The Metroplex is about 600 miles inland, so by the time it gets here, it won't be any worse than the storms we experience regularly in the spring. Actually, this is better because, unlike the spring storms, we actually knew this was coming days in advance, so we've had plenty of time to prepare (which has amounted to moving exactly four lightweight plastic chairs, the outdoor fireplace bowl thingy, the propane grill, and the bird baths).

The worst we'll get is about 4" of rain (not a problem; we're on a hill) and sustained winds of about 30–40 mph, gusting to maybe 50–60 mph (see preparations above).

To our listeners in Houston/Galveston, other areas of S. Texas, and E. Central Texas:

You're in our thoughts and we hope you made/make it through Ike's wrath unscathed.

Thanks to all who've expressed concern for us and look for our special IKE edition of Tastes Like Burning tomorrow night.

Stay crispy (no matter how wet you get)!

So, yeah . . . we didn't get around to doing a show this weekend.  So if you've been waiting with bated breath for the next one to come down the tubes, you're gonna have to wait longer.

We might try flapping our cheeks to squeeze one out today or tomorrow, but you may have to wait until Saturday or Sunday for the next EXCITING episode of TASTES LIKE BURNING.

      1. A new banner made with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0.
      2. New category of links in the right-hand pane for the latest StumbleUpon sites we've mentioned on the show.
      3. The link to a complete Archive List at the top of the right-hand pane.
      4. We've also moved the site search bar and "Open links in new window" check box to the top of the pane, as well.

We hope you enjoy the new features.

It has been brought to the attention of those of us here at the Tastes Like Burning studio that we made an error in citing the origins of Mr. Dick, the pink 12-inch magical fortune-telling Penis. We regret that we neglected to invent practical means of time travel once we learned of our mistake after the show to go back and state correctly that it was in fact "Mrs. C" (aka, Erin) who made the selection of the giant puce prick with ESP, and all Big C picked out was the cheesy over-the-hill 50th birthday mug filled with prunes. Clever.

However, that said, had the Cs called-in during the show to help us celebrate our albeit small milestone, we would have avoided the embarrassment of making the mistake of assuming it was the Big "C" who picked the psychic fuschia phallus.

Tastes Like Burning regrets the error.

      Good morning.

On the blog post for Episode 49, "Quetsucrapbowle Commands You," the link for the Celestia program pointed to the wrong Celestia website.  As it turns out, celestia.com is actually some new age website for repainting your inner child's chakra or something.

I have corrected the link and provided it on this post as well for your convenience.

Tastes Like Burning regrets the error.  No seriously, we're sorry for sending you to those damn dirty hippies.

No other way to say it.  This isn't a normal show.  I mean yeah, Leeann came back to guest host, and we got your Childhood Memory, and a Fast Forward Segment, and an eHeeey! Item.  And sure there are some laughs, and we talk about fun and interesting things, but something didn't feel right.

Judge for yourself, and leave feedback of some sort if you have any opinion on the whole thing.  (If you have feedback you don't want aired on the show, just let us know.)

      BONUS SHOW

CAUTION:  This show is heavy and may require two people to lift it.

BUT we still have fun, or at least I do.

We talk about a dinner with my Dad which turns the subject to Death and the meaning of Life and we have that kind of talk.

    • Mom's brother dies
    • We talk about religion
    • James discusses his grandmother's passing
    • Fate
    • I have a new whisper segment

    • Heady times, but still funny.

The much anticipated episode 34.  Well much anticipated by me anyway.
Our good friends Bekka and Lesley stop by after a night out on the town.  We have the usual funny for the first half of the show, and then on to the sweet action.  Ok well it isn't action per say, but we basically discuss our four coming out stories and various life issue things.  BUT we still have fun doing it.

So say goodbye to boredom and hello Salty Goodness.  I don't know what that means. . .

So for like the first time in a long while, if ever, we had technical issues.  Show 31 and Show 32 were spliced together in a horrible T.L.B. Baby that we wanted to abort.  HOWEVER, I, Tim, of Tastes Like Burning, spent all night picking the show 32 PNA out of the retard monkey baby  that was show 3132 and well, here it is.  The majority was saved but I'm not gonna lie to you people, it isn't pretty.  Well, its not that bad really, just a few clips here and there, some sentences  are cut off in the beginning, but overall the show is intact and good.  If nothing else, stay for the Ball Segment 40 minutes in, its worth it.  There is Drama in the beginning, but we pick it up quickly.  Hope you enjoy.

Tim & James dive into a socio-psycho-analysis of their relationship dynamic and how it has cost them all but one friend. Don't let the subject matter's deep, heady content (which leads to a shocking revelation at the root of it all) fool you; it's still pretty damn funny.

NOTE: Tim can't count, so don't listen to him when he thinks this is Episode 32 (it really is Episode 31). Good thing James does our taxes.

NOTE the Second: We've now added album art to the mp3 tag, so please let us know if it actually worked.
